The special effects were impressive in 1977, but 38 years later, I don't mind the majority of the changes especially the ancillary ones such as the additions to the Yavin 4 X-wing takeoff, arriving in Mos Espa, etc. ![]() I would say it was the soundtrack, the memorable characters, and the lighthearted and adventurous tone of the film. What made Star Wars special in 1977 is debatable. ![]() If Disney wants to release color-corrected version of the original trilogy I could care less, but color tones are never what these debates are about. It's completely out of place, and instead of seeing what made Star Wars groundbreaking in 1977, you see ordinary 90's cgi that you saw in hundreds of other movies. The CGI/color corrections ruined the viewing experience of Star Wars.
